A 2011 MacBook Pro came in to our United Kingdom Belfast based office this week that was dropped heavily which caused the Seagate hard drive to fail on it. Droping a laptop or Macbook from even a small height can create more than 50g forces on the drive spinning between 5000 - 7200 rpm.
Access to the drive and ready to be taken out. 5 years of not cleaning the inside and having pets caused quite a bit of dust on the inside as well.
We quoted a £140 to recover all the data and were able to clone it onto a brand new solid state drive. The cloning and new hard drive were charged separately. Total for full data recovery including brand new ssd and boot up time in under 30 seconds came to £260 including VAT.
